Little Huskies Preschool

A Day of Play-Based Learning

In our early childhood classroom, each day is thoughtfully designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning through play. Children learn best by doing, exploring, and interacting with their environment, so our daily routine balances structured activities with child-led discovery.

Early Literacy – Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum
We build strong early reading skills through daily phonemic awareness activities. Children learn to hear, identify, and play with sounds in words—an essential foundation for reading and writing success.

Mathematics – Everyday Mathematics curriculum
Our math program introduces concepts through hands-on exploration, games, and real-life problem solving. Children develop number sense, patterns, and critical thinking skills in a fun and engaging way.

Social-Emotional Learning – Second Step program & Conscious Discipline program
We prioritize emotional development alongside academics. These programs help children learn how to identify feelings, build positive relationships, manage emotions, and develop self-regulation skills—tools that are essential for success in school and life.

Learning Centers & Stations
Children engage in learning centers such as art, sensory play, dramatic play, building, literacy, and early math. These stations encourage hands-on exploration while supporting important developmental skills like problem-solving, language, and social interaction. Teachers guide and extend learning through meaningful conversations and open-ended questions.

Circle Time & Group Learning
We come together as a group for songs, stories, and discussions that build community and introduce new concepts. This time helps children develop listening skills, confidence, and early communication abilities.

Gross Motor Play
Active play is an essential part of each day. Whether indoors or outdoors, children participate in activities that build strength, coordination, and overall physical health. Movement also supports brain development and helps children stay focused and ready to learn.

Free Play & Exploration
Unstructured playtime allows children to follow their interests, make choices, and practice independence. This is when creativity shines and social skills like cooperation, sharing, and problem-solving naturally develop.

Snack & Social Time
Snack time provides a chance to refuel while also building independence and social connections. Children practice self-help skills and engage in conversations with peers in a relaxed setting.
